Kathmandu: The number of countries playing ODI and T20 World Cup cricket is set to increase.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has ruled that 14 nations will play in the ODI World Cup and 20 in the T20 World Cup. The ODI cricket rules will come into force from 2027 and the T20 rules from 2024.
With the new ICC rules, the possibility of associate countries like Nepal playing in both formats of the World Cup has increased. At present, only 10 countries are allowed to play ODIs and only 16 countries are allowed to play T20 World Cup.
The ICC has also announced that it will resume the Champions Trophy, which has been suspended since 2017. Similarly, the schedule of Test Championship every two years has also been passed. The old rules will apply to the one-day and T20 competitions until 2024.
