Kathmandu: The Nepali team has reached Kuwait to play the World Cup qualifier. The Nepali team has reached Kuwait for the remaining matches of the second round of the World Cup to be held in Qatar in 2022 BS and the Asia Cup to be held in China in 2023 BS.
Nepal left for Kuwait after playing a friendly match with Iraq. The Nepali team will play three games in Kuwait. Nepal will play its first match against Chinese Taipei on June 4. The second match will be played against Jordan on June 7 and the third match will be played against Australia on June 8, according to the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA).
National team coach Abdullah Almutairi has selected 23 players for the World Cup and Asian Cup qualifiers. The Nepali team reached Kuwait by land. Nepal lost to Iraq 6-2 in a friendly match on Saturday. Upon arrival in Kuwait, all members of the Nepali team underwent PCR testing. According to ANFA, everyone's PCR report was negative.
Kiran Chemjong, Vishal Sunar and Deep Karki are the goalkeepers of the Nepali team, Rohit Chand, Ananta Tamang, Dinesh Rajbanshi, Gautam Shrestha, Suman Aryal and Vikas Khawas are the defenders, Vishal Rai, Manish Dangi, Eric Visht, Kamal Thapa, Santosh Tamang and Suman Lama are the midfielders. Sunil Bal, Surajjiu Thakuri, Pujan Uparkoti and Ayush Ghalan and forwards are Abhishek Rijal, Anjan Bista, Navyug Shrestha and Ashish Lama.
In the World Cup qualifiers, Nepal has so far won only one game and lost four games. Nepal, which is in Group B, is in the fourth position with three points. Chinese Taipei in the same group is scoreless. Australia tops the group with 12 points, followed by Kuwait with 10 points. Jordan is in third place with 10 points. Australia is ranked 41st, Jordan 95th, Chinese Taipei 141st and Nepal 171st in the FIFA rankings.
